This record-breaking performance was driven by Saudi Arabia which itself has its best ever year, with contracts soaring 59% on the 2022 number. The estimated $880bn giga projects program has been a principal driver of this growth.
The impact of the giga projects program is evident from the sharp growth in the construction and transport and infrastructure sectors, which are performing at more than double the average of the 2016-2020 period. The renewable energy elements of the carbon-neutral program are also major catalysts for the increase in power sector spending
As of mid-March, there are some $194bn worth of contracts tendered or under bid evaluation in the GCC, compared with $110bn this time last year.
In keeping with the theme of this presentation, Saudi is by far the largest projects market in terms of the total projects pipeline, with more than $1.53 trillion worth of known future projects.
