XRG/Galp Energia/ExxonMobil/ENH/KOGAS/ENI/CNPC - Rovuma LNG Development
Mozambique Rovuma Venture (MRV) (70%), Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos E.P. (ENH EP) (10%), Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS)(10%) and Galp Energia, SGPS, S.A. (GALP)(10%) and XRG are planning to undertake the construction of onshore liquefied natural gas plant with a capacity of 18 million tons per annum in Afungi peninsula, Cabo Delgado, Mozambique.
Mozambique Rovuma Venture (MRV) is a joint venture formed by ExxonMobil (40%), Eni S.p.A. (40%), and China National Petroleum Corp-CNPC (20%).
The project involves the construction of an onshore LNG with a production capacity of 18 Mtpa, 12 LNG trains with a capacity of 1.5 Mtpa each train. The project consists of electric-driven LNG trains instead of gas turbines, thereby reducing greenhouse gases emissions compared to conventional LNG projects.
The project also involves two main components:
1. Upstream includes the digging of 24 wells: 16 for Mamba Straddling Resources (as initial development under the UUOA) and 8 for Non-Straddling resources (385E).
2. Midstream includes Area 1 and Area 4 facilities, in which Area 1 includes the construction of the 12.9 million tons per annum Mozambique LNG plant located in Afungi, fed by the Prosperidade complex and Golfinho-Atum development, with a production capacity of 2,000 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. Area 4 includes the construction of the 15.2 million tons per annum Rovuma LNG plant.
The environmental study was completed by Anadarko Petroleum Corp, and the Ministry of Coordination of Environmental Affairs (MICOA) approved the final EIA Report on June 20, 2014.
ExxonMobil will lead the construction and operation of natural gas liquefaction and related facilities on behalf of the joint venture and Eni will lead the construction and operation of upstream facilities.
The LNG plant will produce market natural gas from the Mamba fields and Coral South field located in the Area 4 block offshore Mozambique which was completed in 2017.
The project is expected to produce 3.5 million metric tons of LNG per annum (mtpa), with start-up slated for 2028.
The project is also known as "Rovuma LNG".
The US$23,000 million project includes the following:
1. Construction of 24 offshore production wells plus subsea gathering and export pipeline
2. Installation of 12 electric modular LNG trains producing 18 million tonnes annually
3. Construction of infrastructure including offshore and nearshore pipelines, material offloading facility, and LNG marine terminal
4. Construction of two hundred thousand cubic metre LNG tanks plus condensate storage
5. Construction of full gas pretreatment units, utilities, offsite systems and support
6. Construction of worker camps, roads, power, water treatment, waste management infrastructure
7. Installation of subsea flowlines and manifold systems to transport feed gas offshore to shore
8. Construction of marine offloading facility, export jetty, pioneer dock harbor support
9. Construction of supporting facilities: workforce accommodation, utilities, security infrastructure
