Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is undertaking the expansion of Jebel Ali K power station in Dubai, the UAE.

The existing plant has a capacity of 948MW and 60 million imperial gallons a day (MIGD) of desalinated water. DEWA now plans to increase the power capacity. The current generation capacity of K-Station is 948MW and the completion of this expansion will add 590MW increasing the total production to 1,538MW.

Nass Contracting has been awarded the civil works contract worth US$15.42 million. The civil works are expected to complete by Q1 2019 and the scope includes earthworks, concreting, formwork rebar and waterproofing of various equipment foundations, tanks, along with associated structures and buildings.

Tenders for MEI has not yet issued however, contract for civil works has already been awarded to an unidentified company. We are working on identifying the contractor. Once we have done this we will list it on the profile. Currently, construction works are ongoing on the project.

The civil subcontracting works is expected to be awarded by end February 2018. The following companies among others have submitted the bids for civil subcontracting works : Al Nasr Contracting Company and Ghantoot Group The tender is not yet issued for MEI subcontracting works.

The construction works are progressing and are expected to be completed by mid-2019. Mechanical and electrical subcontractors are not yet appointed on the project.

The project has been awarded to Duro Felguera at a contract value of US$217.26 million (798 AED). The scope of work includes the supply, installation, testing and launch of 2 F-type gas turbines from Siemens AG. The project is expected to be operational by Q2 2019.
