NNPC/ NOHM Morocco - Africa Atlantic Gas Pipeline
Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines (ONHYM) are planning to develop the gas pipeline project connecting Nigeria and Morocco via 13 countries in West Africa which will take 25 years to complete.
The project is also known as the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline project (previously Nigeria Morocco Gas Pipeline). The project will have a capacity to transport 30 billion cubic meters (m3) of natural gas.
It will be developed in phases. However, the exact scope of the phases is yet to be revealed.
The US$25,000 million project includes the following:
1. Laying of 6800 km gas pipeline
2. Construction of compressor station
3. Infrastructure and related works
4. Installation of gas injection facilities
5. Installation of valves
6. Installation of safety equipment
7. Laying of subsea cables
8. Associated facilities

Etafat has started the first topographical studies and topographic survey activities for the route of the project. The geophysical and geotechnical analyses are expected to conclude by 2025. The pre-feasibility and engineering studies were completed in early 2024 and the client is working on the final investment decision which will be made in 2025.

A Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) between Morocco and UAE has been signed on the investment cooperation for the project. Under the MoU, UAE will provide both financial and technical support to implement the project.

Five tripartite Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) were signed between Morocco and Nigeria, on the one hand, and by Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Ghana, on the other.
