Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) is undertaking the construction of the second phase of Zuluf water treatment plant located at Tanajib, Saudi Arabia.

The project includes a water treatment facility with a capacity of approximately 308,000 cubic metres per day (cm/d), equivalent to 1.9 million barrels of water per day.

The project will supply treated water for injection as part of Aramco’s development of the offshore Zuluf oil field.

The project is being developed under a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) concession lasting until 2050.

The Zuluf Independent Water Treatment Plant: Phase 2 forms part of Saudi Aramco’s utility and water support works for its operations in the Eastern Province. The first phase of the project will have a capacity of 185,000 m3/day. The second phase project is expected to double the capacity of the Zuluf WTP after completion. The project is expected to expand treated water capacity and improve water quality for operational use through additional treatment process units, pumping and storage facilities, and associated electrical and control systems. Works also include tie-ins to existing networks, supporting buildings, and site-wide utilities to allow safe and reliable operation.

The US$650 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of water treatment plant

2. Construction of storage tanks

3. Construction of pumping stations

4. Construction of transmission line

5. Installation of inlet/outlet channels

6. Installation of control systems

7. Construction of associated facilities
