Saudi Aramco - COUR: Jafurah Expansion Phase 5
Saudi Aramco is undertaking the construction of a gas compression and handling project at Al Jafurah, Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia.
This project forms part of the Jafurah unconventional gas fieldâs Expansion Phase 5, focusing on building multiple gas compression plants and handling facilities. It will use advanced compression technologies, pipelines, and associated utilities, including processing trains, sulphur recovery, exporting infrastructure, and safety systems. The project aims to increase sales gas capacity and deliver ethane, natural gas liquids and condensates to domestic and downstream markets.
The aim is to support Saudi Arabiaâs goal of achieving about 2 billion standard cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of sales gas from Jafurah by 2030, boost gas feedstock for industry, and enhance energy security. Key components include the EPC of gas compression plants, pipelines, utility units, control systems, and handling and export facilities. Expected outcomes are higher production capacity, lower emissions through efficient gas utilisation, and stronger downstream industrial growth.
The US$2,500 million project includes the following:
1. Construction of three gas compression trains, each of 200 million cf/d capacity
2. Construction of the gas compression plant inlet area
3. Construction of gas compression plant, condensate, and produced-water handling
4. Construction of outside battery-limit buildings and other associated buildings
5. Construction of a nitrogen generation unit
6. Construction of raw and potable water utilities
7. Construction of chemical injection systems
8. Installation of diesel systems
