MMBEMA -Mrima Hill Niobium and Rare Earth Metals Mine
Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs is undertaking the construction of a niobium and rare earth elements mining project at Mrima Hill in Kwale County, Kenya.
The Kenyan Government has confirmed the existence of five elements (Niobium, Yttrium, Thorium, Strontium, and Lanthanum) arising out of a recent geological mapping exercise conducted in 2022.
The US$64000 million project includes the following:
1. Geological exploration and mapping of rare earth and niobium deposits at Mrima Hill
2. Drilling to estimate niobium and rare earth elements reserves
3. Construction of a processing and beneficiation plant for rare earth oxides and niobium
4. Design and build a mineral processing and beneficiation facility
5. Development of internal access roads and haulage tracks
6. Installation of high-voltage power supply lines and substations
7. Construction of water supply boreholes and storage tanks
8. Installation of environmental monitoring and dust suppression systems
9. Construction of administrative offices and staff housing
8. Construction of associated facilities
