ADNOC Gas is undertaking the construction of a natural gas liquids (NGL) fractionation train at Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, UAE.

This project, as part of the Rich Gas Development (RGD) programme’s Phase 3, involves adding the fifth NGL fractionation unit to the Ruwais Natural Gas Liquids facility. It will incorporate systems for treatment, sweetening, and gas regeneration, as well as a propane refrigeration system. The plant is designed to separate hydrocarbon components such as ethane, propane, butane, isobutane, and pentane from raw natural gas and produce them to high quality standards. With a planned capacity of around 23,000 tonnes per day—or about 8 million tonnes per year—it aims to significantly increase ADNOC Gas’s export-traded NGL output. The key outcomes include higher value product recovery, support for downstream petrochemical and fuel blending industries, and enhanced economic returns. The project is set for completion by 2030.

The US$4300 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of an NGL fractionation plant with a capacity of 23,000 t/d or about 8 million tonnes a year

2. Construction of downstream treatment units

3. Installation of sulfur recovery units

4. Laying of flares and interconnection pipelines with existing facilities

5. Construction of two propane liquefied petroleum gas storage tanks and one paraffinic naphtha storage tank

6. Construction of the central control building

7. Construction of outstations, substations, and plant amenities

8. Installation of electrical power connections
