Royal Commission for Al-Ula (RCU) is planning to develop the tourism infrastructure in the historical sites around the ancient city of Al-Ula in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.

The preliminary pre-masterplan program known as Phase 0 has already seen the completion of several elements of the project, including the fit-out of the existing airport and construction of a new lounge, the boutique, ultra-luxury Ashar resort, a recreational vehicle (RV) resort operated by Fairmont, and Maraya, the world’s largest mirrored building.

This project is one of the initiatives included in the Saudi Giga Projects plan.

The US$15,000 million project includes the following:

1. Hospitality Package

a. Construction of Sharaan Resort 1

b. Construction of Sharaan Resort 3

c. Construction of Performance Resort

d. Construction of a four-star business hotel

d. Construction of a 60-bed hospital

2. Aviation and Logistic Package

a. Renovation of the terminal building

b. Expansion of aprons

c. Construction of the logistics center

3. Urban Development Package

a. Construction of state-of-the-art business enterprise

b. Construction of groundwater network

c. Construction of three waste transfer stations

d. Construction of three sewage and sludge treatment plants with a total capacity of 20,000 cubic meters a day

e. Construction of police station

f. Construction of fire station

4. Infrastructure package

a. Construction of Tramway

b. Construction of Water Supply and Wastewater Treatment Plant

c. Construction of Renewable Energy

5. Construction of Site Offices for RCU Staff

6. Construction of associated facilities

Al Ula Tourism Development: Contractor Construction Village: The main contractor tender is yet to be issued on the project.

The construction works are progressing on the Eco-Lodge Dar Tantora Hotel and it is scheduled to open by first quarter of 2024. Aecom is working as the design consultant and we are in the process of finding the main contractor.
