SPPC - 1500MW Renewable Energy Program: Round 2
Saudi Power Procurement Company(SPPC) is planning to introduce renewable energy projects. To meet the required demand, REPDO recommends the introduction of renewable and nuclear energy gradually such that in 2040. 50% of all electricity generated will be from non-fossil fuels.
The program is designed to provide the base load demand in the night-time during winter, it will be met by geothermal and waste-to-energy plant and the photovoltaic energy will meet the total daytime demand year round. Concentrated solar power will meet the maximum demand difference between photovoltaic and baseload technologies, and hydrocarbons will meet the remaining demand.
The Renewable Energy Programme will be developed with the capacity of 13,000 MW (13 GW).
The US$10,000 million project includes the following:

The financial agreement has been signed on the 300 MW Rabigh Power Plant project. Japan Bank for International Cooperation (Jbic) will provide USD$78m financing; Japanâs Mizuho Bank and local Al-Rajhi Banking & Investment Corporation are co-financing the rest, with Al-Rajhi planning to provide funds based on Islamic finance.

Saudi Arabiaâs King Abdullah City for Atomic & Renewable Energy (KA-Care) has issued a tender for technical, financial and legal consultants to advise on a major new renewables programme.Advisers have been invited to submit bids by mid-August.

One of the reasons for the delay in the project is KA CARE relationship with ministry of electricity and oil was never clearly defined,no single department is put in charge of the project. In 2013, the bids were going to be issued soon but there has been no progress on the same yet and the completion of the project is pushed from 2032 to 2040.
